This trip, a play and OLD or long term friends

Early interesting Cars:

You gotta love these one wheel cars, maybe uni-wheel!

For now....

Sherry says to me on the way back from the Theater at 10PM, “We need to stick with daytime plays.”

I agreed, and answered, “Normal people KNOW where they will be and buy their tickets weeks in advance and pick the day, time and seats they prefer. But we ain’t normal and too often fly by the seat of our pants, shoot from the hip and all that ‘not planned’ stuff.”

HOWEVER we do have reason to be in Lancaster. We do enjoy just being in the area. Sherry really likes chocolate and we know the owner of Miesse Candy Company and MUST drop by for the best chocolate around. It has no preservatives and is good stuff.

Then there is Joan and Dan. He was my boss for a while, and good friend in the USN. Joan was Sherry’s best friend. They actually live a couple blocks from President Buchanan’s home.

A visit with Dan & Joan is always a Joy on our stops here. Sadly that treacherous disease Alzheimer, has stolen her mind. She is amazingly friendly and funny. She was always a joy to be around. Our visit was longer than we had planned, it was a spur of the moment thing arranged by daughter Tracy, the owner of Miesse’s candy and Ice Cream shop. I will never live long enough to understand this mean disease. BUT amazingly we had a great time. It was so good to see Dan also. He was also a joy to know.

Joan and Dan were the only real dancers I ever knew. They took  the house down at our NIPS parties. I understand they even did a little dancing lately.

In our family Sherry is known for her lasagna. Joan gave her the original ‘family’ recipe.  Joan also taught Sherry to swim while they were in Key West while they were waiting for Dan & I to get the base moved from Albany GA to Key West.

I probably have introduced you to the other couple we know up here, Dallas and Marian, but I will bring them up again next blog entry.

It is good to reconnect with old friends, but so sad to see with happens when affected by Alzheimers. I had a friend that went that way and was happy to see her last on one of her happier days.

That was great you got to see "old" friends! It is a shame about Alzheimer's. Robs so many of so much! Its good you and Sherry have learned to be flexible and to "fly" as you may. Puts you guys into a lot of good adventures I would imagine!

I sometimes wish Tom and I were more spontaneous. And he'll tell you otherwise, but neither of us has much business driving after dark.
In spite of "that thief" Alzheimers, I'm so glad y'all had a good visit. Keep on making those memories!

Enjoyed reading about the reunion with Dan and Joan, sounds like they're wonderful people to have shared happy times with over the years. It hurts to see someone who has Alzheimer's, it's a horrible disease. Glad you had the time together and had a sweet reward at the chocolate factory.

I like the way you go visit your old friends. I am so sorry about Joan. I hate that disease too. It is scary.

Sounds like you had a wonderful time visiting friends and also seems like perfect timing.
Loving your travel stories and photos. Have you visited or are you anywhere near Hersheys? I have always wanted to go there.
