Daddy Frank Benjamin, He changed it over the years to Benjamin Franklin

You can take the girl off the farm, BUT....  Granny Darnell and her cow 'Bessie' Art Cloth Mill Village Lowell, NC that is an early 30s car in the background. (I'm trying to see if those are chickens in the picture, lol)

My Dad was born on a Farm at Red Hill, Georgia, near Toccoa on January 14th, 1903. He was the oldest of 9 boys and 3 girls. I was amazed to find this picture of dad as a baby:

Grandpa was a big fan of the James brothers. He named dad Frank and the next son Jessie. I never knew he was named after the oldest James boy until I was old my own self and Uncle Hisure told me.

He had to quit school in the 3rd grade to become a full time farm hand.

Below is Dad and mom just after they married.

Granny Darnell below, Dad's mom. She was much different than the shy girl in the top picture.

Dad with mama about their 50th anniversary.

Dad was a very good preacher and pastor. He was positive in  his ministry. He was self educated and had a large library for a man with a formal education of 3 yrs.
He loved Radio ministry. Before services could be done remotely, he took part of the choir to the studio. This was at WABZ in Albemarle, NC Early 50s. Sister Shirley is #13.
Daddy died at 69 yrs of age, Today he would be 119 yrs old had he lived this long.
(His BD was 14th mine the 17th. He always said he was 3 days older than I)

I think death is good at times keeping the good from seeing terrible things that happen in the lives of loved ones.  I am missing him and his wisdom today.

PS: If anyone knows the # folks above, let me know. I see #4 at seniors meetings during the year. Yeah she is old but still very pretty.

A man who self educates is sometimes wiser than the ones with a lot of education. I call it common sense. Your dad had a lot of wisdom to share, just like Benjamin Franklin. I got one of his bits of wisdom in my post today, Benjamin Franklin that is. Your Sherry has beauty that age cannot erase. Hope you are keeping warm there, it's getting colder again in Ohio.

Happy Birthday to your daddy in Heaven! I never tire of hearing about your family, Jack. That's pretty cure about he and his brother being named for the infamous James brothers; hope they weren't teased too much about that.

That accordion just right of Shirl reminds me so much of Aunt IrmaNee. Virtually no higher education with school books. Like your Dad she read daily, kept up with the news, worked a 40 hour week and most importantly, cared for her parents. One thing that the ten Pinder kids were encouraged to do was pick a musical instrument and take lessons. Her oldest sister was a virtuoso on piano, Mom had voice lessons, "Nee" mastered the saxaphone and accordion. She carried her instruments up and down the coast of Florida as she directed the Youth of the Church in the forties and fifties. Your Mama and Dad would have adored her!!!
Thank you for always renewing memories, this was a wonderful way to start my day. Love and warm hugs from Chilly Chobee, Glenda

This is awesome. The photos and the stories tell some much about family. Your father must have been a talented man.

I can see where you have gotten some good looks, talent, strong character. This post made me smile and have tears for these wonderful people.

I've marveled at your close, loving family since we'd met. You sure look like your daddy and your mama is a peach of a gal. They raised a wonderful son in you as you follow their love of people and a man of many talents. The old black and white pictures are wonderful parts of your life. Pass them on someday along with the stories of them.
loven'hugs from our chilly, Chilly Northwoods. The sun shines bright but deceiving. brrrrrr. Have a warm week and stay dry

What a wonderful post! I love all your photos. My own father had a 4th grade education, although he has been gone for nearly 37 years, he is still the smartest man I have ever known. I have two college educated brothers, Bill and Ed Jr. I have 4 out of 5 college educated children. I love them dearly, but they do not even come close to have the intelligence our dad had. But my brothers do have exquisite handwriting like dad. My mom was not allowed to use her left hand in Catholic school, She did everything left handed except write. I could not be broken but my handwriting is not terrific. Another quality from my mom heeheehee
Thank you for sharing these lovely photos and your story too.
