New way to live on the road!!!

This is the Goat boy and girl in 1942 (Sherry on the right of her Brother Johnny. Don't she look like she is ready to hit the road (These pictures go where they want to not in order)

This is basically a travel Blog. We live in this Motor home full time. On-the-road is our life, so when we hear of other ways to do it, I become interested. Oh yes we have had homes, still do, but others live in them. WE have lived in tents, vans and motor homes.

Paula sent me an address I might be interested in, called “twomulesandawagon.com” It only makes me mad because I did not think of it.

A guy from home rode his horse from NC to California. That should have made me think, we could take a wagon across country. That sounds like a great idea.

I mentioned on here before about the Goat Man. He was quite a character. He rode in a wagon that was pulled by a few teams of goats. He raised his son alone in the wagon as he traveled the country. For kids in the 40’s & 50’s he was an entertaining sight. His wagon was covered with pots and pans. Things he had picked up on the road. He sold goat’s milk and butter also. He became a legend, songs have been written and sang in his honor.

He was born in Iowa and died in a nursing home in Macon, GA at the age of 97 or 120, they say no one really knew. A year before the goat man died, his son (the goat boy) was murdered.
The Goat man was an ordained minister and preached as he traveled. I don’t know how many times he criss-crossed the country, but when my daddy heard he was in the area he made sure to take me to see this site. He sure drew a crowd, even though those goats did smell bad. He had a long beard and looked like I had pictured Moses looking.

Anyway, I guess I have done all the crazy stuff Sherry will let me do. I don’t think she would go for a cross country trip in a wagon pulled by mules. But doesn’t it sound like fun?

Come on, I need some help here.

I will accept encouragement, donations of wagons and mules maybe some goats. I think she would love them. She has a start. (Note top picture of this entry). There she sits smiling REALLY big. I just know she would learn to love goats. (or mules, I know you think she is already married to a mule headed man and knows……)

Thanks for coming this way.

PS:
Since I got old I have noticed that:

Everybody whispers.

And now that I have retired retired ...Sherry wishes I would find a job!

I have 3 sizes of clothes , 2 of which I will never wear again.

I don't think Sherry is really all that crazy about goats any more, Jack. Besides they smell more than a horse or automobile or camper. Love the pictures. I don't know how you come up with all of those.

Never did like goats, hated it even more to have to milk the frisky things, finally Gramp showed me how to tie the back legs togeather with baling twine so the would stand still!!
Still don't like goats milk or goat cheese..

BUT I once had a call as a Policeman to go to an apartment house where a woman had a goat in the back yard, neighbors complained about it, lots of goat droppings and smelled pretty bad BUT she had a baby, baby needed goats milk to live, she had a Doctor's letter ststing the fact the baby needed Goat's milk, Case Closed!

I like that picture of Sherry and her brother.
I remember the goat man very well. Those pots and pan clanging as he went down the road. I never knew he was a preacher though and didn't know about his son. Helen

INTERESTING ENTRY JACK.
I'VE DRIVEN MULES, A NEIGHBOR'S MULES. WE HAD HORSES.
MANY OF THOSE OLD TIMERS WERE REALLY SET IN THEIR WAYS. MY DAD WAS ONE OF THEM. SMOKED THAT PIPE AND WE WORKED IN THE FIELD AS HE TOLD STORIES OF HIS YOUNGER DAYS DRIVING AN OX TEAM.
BACK IN INDIANA IN YOUNGER DAYS. sam

Yeah, Jack. You know I envy you with you ability to stay on the road in your motor-home. I love to camp out. But Frances is like the woman I heard about whose idea of a camp-out was a 40 foot Winnebago, Queen bed, kitchen, bath with hot and cold running water - parked in the Wal-mart parking lot! She has camped out with me several times years ago - she once said, "I'll do it if it kills me!"

I remember passing the goat man as we drove along US41 going to Florida (which we did every year as long as the grand-parents were alive) to see the folks...or maybe it was US19...or maybe US11...or maybe all three.

I remember the goat man. I am not to much for
camping as you know. I love my bed and potty.
We are snowed in so I want be camping this week-end. I would like to camp close to a Shopping
Center and a good eating place. You are just
like Willie's song. "ON THE ROAD AGAIN".

I bet when Shirl feels like camping out, she starts a fire in the fireplace, throws some covers on the couch, grabs her snacks and starts the movie... :D Sounds good, maybe I'll join her...ha. Sherry can go camp out with Shirl while you hit the road with the mules and wagons...you can run by NE and take Lucy for a ride, after the snow is gone and it warms up...Ha...Have a great week, Sheila

I love the picture of Sherry & her brother in the little wagon. Nope Jack, can't give you any encouragement cause I'd be like Sherry wouldn't want any part of traveling cross country in a wagon pulled by mules or goats.
