Beautiful trip from El Paso to Bloomfield, New Mexico

Driving thru El Paso on I-10 you can look across the border to the city of Juarez.

The writing on the mountain in the picture on the left is above the city of Juarez. Foreground is some of El Paso Sky line.  El Paso is a pretty city.

TO BLOOMFIELD 011TO BLOOMFIELD 012

More of Ciudad Juarez. On the right you can see the large brown fence separating the cities here.

I always expect arid, dry vistas in New Mexico, but I was caught by surprise by the HUGE ‘Green’ Pecan groves.  Both sides of the highway.

TO BLOOMFIELD 013TO BLOOMFIELD 015TO BLOOMFIELD 019

I always love the jagged rough mountains in the back ground.

TO BLOOMFIELD 021TO BLOOMFIELD 022TO BLOOMFIELD 023

We enjoyed several of the huge water tanks painted with interesting western murals.

Below was an Immigration inspection station. We were always asked how many aboard and are you both citizens?

TO BLOOMFIELD 029

Side note. You cannot imagine the enormity of the task of securing the borders until you see the thousands of square miles of rough country in the Southern border. We saw hundreds of Border Patrol Vehicles.

TO BLOOMFIELD 034

There are always mountains in the distance, the roads were good.  And we passed by ‘Truth or Consequences, New Mexico’ on I-25.

TO BLOOMFIELD 036

This is why I love to travel. The formations along the highway are always interesting and welcome.

TO BLOOMFIELD 056

The colors are always inspiring.  I-25 is a new route for us, a new wrinkle in our horn. So the rest area below, having small compartments for picnic tables was interesting to say the least.

TO BLOOMFIELD 045

I had to check inside. you can see our home out in the parking lot. You would be very surprised, I was, it was actually cool in this open space. Families  could picnic out of the blowing sand and hot sun.

TO BLOOMFIELD 046

OH, yeah, backing up to first entering New Mexico, I was shocked at the humongous number of dairy farms. This is a 1% sampling. They are not too clear but those are black & white cows.

TO BLOOMFIELD 047

Being a builder I always look at architecture.  Flat roofs are used out here much of the time. Not a good idea where a lot of rain is expected. So no problem here.

TO BLOOMFIELD 048

Near Albuquerque we had two warning lights come on. One was ‘Low Coolant’ the other only said: ‘WARNING’. I slowed down the lights went out and we made it to our turn off toward Bloomfield, 150 mi away!

TO BLOOMFIELD 049TO BLOOMFIELD 061

We went slow and babied the coach up highway 550.  Thru several Reservations, crossed the Rio Grande twice, and saw much more beautiful scenery.

TO BLOOMFIELD 062

We got in late. parked Called Buddy & Di to let them know we were late but here. We Ate at “Sonya’s American Cooking” seemed appropriate because out Tennessee Sonya is always showing great food. The food was vey good.

We talked the evening away with old friends until the early morning. Except for the dash lights, we had a great trip.

How refreshing it is to visit with dear friends.

Lovin' these pictures, Jack!
I'm embarrassed to admit, I had to google "Bloomfield" last evening ... surprised, and a bit chastened, to learn it's really not that far from my home town (Los Alamos).
Can't wait to read what's next!

You drove with warning lights that many miles? You are brave.
Don't get me started on the border patrol.
I love the water tanks with their painted murals.
Pecan Trees?
Dairy Farms?
I'll be.
Sounds like you are having a great time.

We saw similar scenery when we moved from San Antonio to Washington state. I'm not sure if we traveled on the same highway but we did spend the night in Albuquerque. So in a way I'm getting to retrace my steps. Thanks for sharing. Be careful, Sheila

LOVE the tanks painted with murals. How quaint. They do that north of here at one of the oil refineries.

I'm glad you made it to your destination just fine. It's a little scary when you are out on the road like that and those warning lights come on. The pictures are all just beautiful. Nice to see the places I've never been. Hope you all have a good visit with your friends.

Husband and I watched an old Clint Eastwood movie (western) last night and the scenery looked much like the ones you posted today. Beautiful country, Jack. I'm so thrilled that you all are enjoying your trip.
Hugs,
Jackie

Love the scenery along this part of your trip. So different from anything that I have ever had the joy of seeing while traveling. Hopefully someday I will get to see it first hand.
Safe travels to you and Sherry and keep an eye on the motor home!
