From Iowa we crossed the mighty Mississippi and into Illinois. The land scape is about the same and still a lot of corn and soy beans being grown.
I remembered the roads being TERRIBLE around Chicago, and hoped they would be better west to east. The roads were about half and half (good and bad). More traffic but the scenery was still great.
We do not know if this is a mine or just a huge rock quarry. But those sheer rock walls are close to 70-80 feet.
Below was in South Holland Ill. Not sure what it was, appeared to be a huge cross over.
Then into Indiana, we are South of lake Michigan getting close to our destination in Michigan.
Traffic was bad, but we did pass thru some beautiful farm land here also. I was just too busy to shoot. 
Sherry got one of the three towers of some kind?
I estimated about 90 ft. high. Interesting…
Then into Michigan, for about 45 minutes.
Yes there are thousands of acres of farms in Michigan. We tend to think of Detroit.
The land from Iowa to Michigan lays rolling and flat alternately. It is refreshing to see live waterways thriving. Cattle on the hills with plenty of grazing land and water. The rolling hills are so refreshing and I never get enough of saying, “Would you look at that, or LOOK OVER THERE!”

We are in the state of the Motor City. This area is responsible for a love. Love between cars and humans. We are sitting in Michigan, just a few miles above South Bend Indiana.
Autos were not only built in Detroit, South Bend saw plenty built. This 1987 Studebaker Avanti was the last production car built in South Bend, Indiana

Nice to have some scenery, rather than all the flat land in Ne. When Lee was alive, he had a brother in Iowa so we got over there 2 or 3 times. Now his widow is in her 90's
.WE never saw much interesting parts of Iowa cause we were there to visit.I wondered if you and Sherry ever got tired of driving so much. I bet that was a long haul from Lincoln through. Tell Sherry We said hi and see her on FB.
Those rolling hills look very similar to the ones we have here. After having been to California, I was very glad to return to the green green grass of home. You don't see that out there, at least where I visited. Hope you enjoy your visit in Michigan. I do remember when you had to go there in the winter time. This one should be much nicer, in the summer. It is a little chilly here today too, but it won't last long. We still have loads of warmer days coming in August through September for the most part!
What in the world... if you are just north of South Bend, then you are a little over an hour from me!!! I recognized the quarry in Ill, on 80/90 just south of 294. And the oasis in New Holland and the I80 tollway into Indiana... we were just on it all 2 weeks ago when we took a trip back home lol. I see you hit the nice road construction along the way and the crazy traffic. If you go up I90 you can hit about 50 straight miles of it...we hit it coming home (because someone took the wrong exit, but we won't mention any names...DON!!!)lol

My daughter, Lynda, lived in a suburb of Ill. for about three years. Wish I could remember the name of it in case you saw it or a sign for it.
Well you hit my old turf - although I was in northern Illinois and Indiana. Still hearing the names makes it feel like home. So do you ever get tired of driving? You sure have seen some wonderful sites. sandie
And just where is your destination? Does it include UPPER MICHIGAN - I know a couple who would love to see you two in person. We would even share some garden produce ... does that entice you? And I bake a 'killer chocolate cake' - in a good sense.
