Key West and onward

If I remember right, there are 52 bridges between Miami and Key West, below is the beginning of the 7 mile bridge just south of Marathon Key, which is the longest.

You find many oddities in the Keys, dining in the water, for one.

To be frank, the beach below is pretty from a distance, but it has very little sand. There is a lot of pebbles stones and shells, it is sorta rough for bare feet, but beautiful none the less.

MILE MARKER ZERO of US-1 is in Key West.

Also the Southernmost point of the USA is there. Below is an areal view of Key West.

The views of the coral and tropical fish are the most envied.  When folks do not have the time to snorkel and take the views in leisurely, they take the glass bottom boats.

History does not end at Key West, 70 miles on further South west is Fort Jefferson National Park located in the Dry Tortugas.  An impressive fort formally a prison. One of the most famous prisoners ever held here was Dr. Samuel Mudd who treated John Wilkes Booth for the broken leg.

I was fortunate enough to have a friend with a plane who flew me out to see the Fort. To take a ferry from Key West is pricey, starting at $165 per adult.

No one can deny the beauty of the tropics, it is too apparent.

Thanks for coming along.

PS:

It is impossible to describe something that must be experienced for the full impact.

Humm dining in the water? Now that sounds interesting.

I love seeing the tropics hearing about them too. I have seen some of Florida but not that far south. I only got as far as West Palm beach. One of my sons lived there awhile a few years ago. Not any longer though. Being a northerner it got a little too hot and humid for me, but there are times I long for some warmth. We're cloudy and cool here today.

I think I would have to try the dining in the water; that would be an experience! Beautiful area it is! I also think I would take the tour to the fort/prison; bit pricey and probably pricier now, but what an adventure it could be!

Going snorkeling and seeing the coral reefs must be beautiful, indeed. Fort Jefferson sounds interesting for sure.

That '75 Eldorado shows (in part) why GM has lost so much market share. The GM we knew in the '50s never would have put a car that ugly on the road!

52 bridges - wow that is a lot of bridges there. Hey that table and chairs out in the water - boy would that be fun.
