Unnecessary

 Do you  remember 'THE THING?

Now:
Unnecessary, I am so surprised my spell check said that is not a word. (I just reeducated my spell-check.)  It must be a word or my mama would not have used it. She was the educated one of my parents, she ‘Graduated seventh grade’ as she would put it.
For a country girl in North Georgia, that was ‘very educated; in 1918.
Both my parents were always conscience of their lack of education. They both did strive to increase their level of math and English. They were both successful in that respect. All their children were encouraged to get a good ‘formal’ education. Shirley was the only one of their children that graduated High School, they were always so proud of her.
I was very proud of both of them, as a boy should be. I always looked up to my dad and compared him to college grads with less ability and success than he. In the back of my mind was the feeling, ‘if he made it on a 3rd grade education, I will do well with 10 years, LOL at a boys logic.
Anyway that all came up at the breakfast table.  I was below par yesterday, so Sherry asked, “Are you feeling better today?”
My answer came out without thinking, “I feel so ‘unnecessary,” A statement heard thru out my life from mama at the times she was not up to PAR, which was very seldom.
Yep, today, I feel ‘so unnecessary!’  ;-)  or :-O
I was wondering if you remember ‘odd’ words or statements of health growing up. ‘fair to middling’ (a cotton term) was also familiar in this area.
Thanks for stopping by the Shipslog. We will be back on course in the morrow!

Under the weather comes to mind for a term related to not feeling well. I hope you are feeling necessary today Jack! There are so many good ways to get an education that doesn't require sitting in a classroom. I think your parents found that out and that was even before the use of the Internet. Books are valuable sources for knowledge though sadly some of the younger generation don't seem to think that.

My Grandpa felt the same about education, he made it thru 6th grade....he offered to pay for any of the grands and great grands college education.
Get out in the air was a term I heard a lot growing up. We were not allowed to be couch potatoes....

I'd bet there's more 'smart' folks (than not) who graduated from that School of Hard Knocks!
Gotta admit, you startled me by saying you felt 'unnecessary.' (Yes, I took that the wrong way.) I can't recall my parents ever complaining, but have heard the phrase, "Not feeling like a crispy critter." Interesting thoughts!

Hope you are feeling better today. It amazes me how some people with less than a high school education are smarter than some people with doctrine degrees.
I have always heard the term "There's a bug going around" or " Think I have a bug".
When Ashley was small and would get sick, Nick would tell her that she had a "floatin, croakin, bent wobbling shaft". ha ha ha.

I hope you're feeling up to snuff today! My Dad dropped out of high school 6 mo. before graduation and always regretted it. He had to quit to help his parents. He was the smartest man I've ever known. I was thinking of sayings from growing up and here's couple Mom always used to say: When we got hurt: "It will be gone before you're married"..and when we were sick she said we had to be over it in 3 days. Jesus rose from the dead in 3 days, we should too!

Bill always says ' the heifer shaft is loose from the giggly pin ' whenever something isn't working right on his farm equipment. He and I have both had terrible colds/coughs this past month so aren't ' happy campers.' Life goes on. You'd think we'd shed a few lbs.
