Mama’s voice

 Autos of beauty

Mercury D524 built mid 50s never shown to the public nor in production. They shoulda  produced it.

UPDATE: SHERRY'S COVID TEST WAS NEGATIVE.

So for today:

Most of my life I assumed that every mother was like mine; I have over the years learned there were a few exceptions. There are some mothers who have a child and someone else raises them.

I met my first in the USMC, I don’t even remember his name, but it was in the mess hall. I said, “This cooking is okay, but nothing like my mama’s home cooking.”

The retort, “Well let me tell you Reb, this is better than anything my mama cooked, when she was off the streets to do it. She didn’t even like me.”

Then within the last couple years a friend said of her mama, “If she wasn’t my mother, I wouldn’t even like her!”

Now to the reason for this entry before I started that diatribe. Our granddaughter in law has been very sick for a few weeks, she is a nurse. She said the other day, “I was finally able to sing our goodnight songs to the kids.”

That sounded very good to me. It sounded like a mother. I have said many times my mama was big on nightly bedtime prayers and stories. Mama was good at stories. She knew Bible stories, Aesop’s Fables, family stories and some she just made up as she went along.

You may or may not know the bedtime prayer that begins: Now I lay me down to sleep I pray the Lord my soul to keep……….

Shirley and I shared a bedroom most of our childhood. Once (at about 4 yrs old) I was praying and mama was not in the room yet. Shirley kept correcting me. I called for mama, “Mama Shirley keeps interrupting me, I’m gonna knock her down!”

This is daddy and mama, They were in their mid 30 when I was born. This pic about 1943.

Mama walked into the room and ever so sweetly said, “Jackie, the Lord is listening. You are not supposed to be mad when you pray.”

Then I finished my prayers and mama continued with a story.  She could use a switch or just words, but mama knew love. Funny I am 82 and still REMEMBER HER VOICE.

PS: When someone has not known a mother’s love, they have missed a lot in their lives I think. I am glad our boys KNOW a mother’s love.

You had an exceptional good mom Jack. Everyone should have one like that, but you are right. Not everyone was lucky enough to have one. I never doubted my mom's love. She proved it every day. How bless we were! I said that same prayer for many years before going to bed.

For you who read comments, Sherry's results came back Negative for the Covid test. WE really weren't worried, but it makes her feel better. Oh, and thanks for your prayers for her and the family.

I'm so glad Sherry's test came back good! A relief for you both. I think your Mom sounds like a wonderful woman and one who raised wonderful kids! I was blessed with a loving Mom who worked so hard at home and fulltime at the hospital. Thankfully we also had a loving Dad who also worked fulltime and loved our Mom and made sure we knew that and were respectful to her..no sassing back! Back in the day it wasn't the norm for Moms to work outside the home. We always took vacations in the summer when Dad's factory shut down for 2 weeks. We traveled the country and I remember Dad saying that we should know that we wouldn't be able to do this if it wasn't for Mom working. I was always grateful for her good example of raising 6 kids and doing everything she did for us and teaching us good values. We were lucky huh Jack!

Along with my 8 brothers and sisters, we were very fortunate to have our loving, caring Mom. To this day at her noble age of 91, she still tends to our needs. She loves watching over us as we work and teach our kids and grandloves. Being a Mom never ends when it's meant to be. We also said the same prayer and now I hear our grandloves repeating the same one. It's a blessing to know our kids were indeed, listening after all. My heart breaks for those not knowing or having a mother to follow. We were blessed, weren't we. Soooooo happy Sherry is A-OK. Prayer does work.

Oh, THANK GOD for Sherry's negative test results!
Your momma saying you shouldn't be mad when you pray -- that's precious! (I'm thinking that would make a sweet addition to my little journal.)
Yes, I well remember my mother's voice. Unfortunately, not so my father. Cell phone video technology wasn't yet available, but how I wish we'd thought to capture his voice on a tape recorder.

You are so right about missing a mother's love, Jack. The good thing is that it can have a reverse effect, too. Someone that has an unloving/uncaring mother can vow to NEVER be like that and shower their children and families with love and caring.

Love that first car. Too bad they never put it into production. Glad Sherry is free of Covid. We got our first vaccine today. Next dose is in 3 weeks. xo Diana
