Laws: The good, the bad and Wild

Car of the day:

The '53 Ford X100 concept car.

For today:

If I can afford the fuel I can drive all over the USA and not stop at each states border and ask permission.

BUT I must have insurance on my car because too many people have damaged other’s cars and not paid for the damage. So our government officials have decided that all cars should have liability insurance.

One governor or president did not declare this, our government representatives voted and the majority decided this was best for you and me, the public. Hey, lemme tell you I did not like that. I had just gotten my car when this happened. That was an extra $40 a year my dad and older brothers had never had to pay. It wasn’t fair to start that just when I became a car owner!!!!!

I knew it wasn’t a bad idea. Because 2 years earlier my BIL Sonny was on an icy road and slid into the lane of an oncoming NEW 1954 Ford and totaled both cars. He had to take out a loan to pay for the other guys new Ford. He also had to borrow to buy a used car to replace his. So I agree that required liability ins. is not a bad law.

You don’t have to go far to find 'really strange’ laws, some that are still on the books that do not fit today. Here are North Carolina laws still on the books:

…It is illegal to drop objects from aircraft around Fayetteville NC (Paratroopers are exempt)

…You cannot camp out in graveyards in Fayetteville either!

…Elephants may not be used to plow cotton fields.

It's against the law to sing off key……… (OUCH that hurts!)

It's a felony to steal more than $1000 worth of grease

… If a man and woman who aren't married go to a hotel and register themselves as married, then according to state law, they are married.  Is this a short cut????

Organizations may not hold their meetings when members present are in costume.

it must be illegal to wear a mask

… Bingo games may not last more than five hours, and alcohol is not allowed at bingo games…

Driving on sidewalks is illegal…. What?

Visiting the dead after midnight is illegal.   (but I just got off work and want to visit mama!!)

Women are required to wear clothes that total 16 yards.  (Daisy Duke can’t live in NC)

Think those are funny? Check your state, what is the worst?

PS:  The top is Forest City, NC:

Forest city requires you to call Town Hall before entering the city in a car!

LOL; I did look up "weird" Arizona laws and here's two I found:

1. Don't try your career in fortune telling.
2. Don't feed garbage to a pig.

I'll remember not to break those laws!

I'm glad they have insurance these days for cars; pretty much insurance for anything. We pay a "fortune" to be covered but glad we have it when an accident or such occurs.

Fun post, Jack! Ya, I'd be afraid to leave my driveway if I didn't carry insurance. Not sure about Alabama, but I know in Texas and Arizona it's wise to carry coverage against UNinsured motorists.

In the spirit of what Betty wrote, I just Googled our silly laws. A few:
"It's illegal to dress as a priest on Halloween", and
"Dominoes may not be played on Sunday."
"It's illegal to wear a fake mustache to church."

Silly people! 😁

This post is a hoot, and I googled: Florida has a reputation for being a very bizarre and unusual state.

These laws I listed here certainly don't dissuade that notion. This the Top 11 Weirdest Laws in Florida! These will be ranked from "Odd" to "Weird", "Bizarre" and "Good Lord, what were these people thinking?!".

To clarify, some of these laws are not part of Florida as a whole, just certain cities or localities in Florida. So some laws in Miami Beach may not be applicable in Tampa. Though others still affect the entire state. Some of them are just getting a fine, while others risk jail time. Now keep in mind, these laws were probably made because there were some people who actually did these absurd things. So without any further ado, let's begin:

It's illegal to lean a bike on a cemetery's tree: Odd

Locality: Destin

It's illegal to skateboard without a license: Odd

Locality: Florida State Laws

You can't roll a barrel down the street. Depending on the barrel's content, you can be fined: Weird

Locality: Pensacola

Women who fall asleep under a hairdryer can be fined: Weird

Locality: Florida State Laws

Men can't publicly wear a strapless gown: Weird

Locality: Said to be in Miami (Source unknown)

Publicly singing in a swimsuit is illegal: Weird

Locality: Sarasota

Unmarried women parachuting on Sundays could risk jail time: Bizarre

Locality: Florida State Laws

Being publicly clothed in liquid latex is illegal: Bizarre

Locality: Satellite Beach

Horse theft is punishable by hanging: Bizarre

Locality: Florida State Laws

A woman electrocuted in the bathtub using beauty tools can be fined after she's dead: Good Lord, what were these people thinking?!

Locality: Pensacola

In the state of Florida, the law states you must pay for the parking meter if you tie an elephant, goat, or alligator to it: Good Lord, what were these people thinking?!

Locality: Florida State Laws So, come on back down to Florida, just mind the laws! Love and warm hugs from Chobee, Glenda

Shoes must have at least 1.5cm tread on the soles to avoid slipping and falling. Police can stop you to check your shoes have the required tread and are safe.

Whilst walking on the sidewalk you must signal if you're about to stop suddenly or turn to enter a shop. This is to avoid bumping into other pedestrians.

If you stop on the sidewalk you must not stand on the cracks between the tiles.

When telling fortunes it is illegal to read fortunes using bird entrails. Other animals are OK though. This takes the words "gut feeling" to an entirely new level.

Farting in an elevator is forbidden on many levels.

God bless.
