Possible absence

Stay out of the ivy in the woods.

This is an entry for Friday.

I have always wondered about trees covered with Ivy.  If it would actually hurt the tree. So I had a chance to ask a friend who majored in Forestry about that.  He looked at some of our trees and said, "This ivy will not damage your trees, however it should be killed back. The Forestry service has determined that it is the  extra weight during rains, collecting weight causes many tree falls."

He explained I should take a whack out of each vine of at least a foot in each vine. Some of these vines are 3", but most are much smaller.  After about a half our I did get a mask.

So I spent today in the woods (This only an acre, but it has a million trees, LOL)

As far as I know I have never had allergies, but since coming in I have sneezed constantly and my nose is dripping. I stop every line here to catch the flow.

On a very serious note our friend Mary Ann has been moved to Winston Salem, NC.  She is not doing well at all, and the family cannot even go in due to a new covid case.

I hope to be back on here soon, But this sneezing and nose makes typing a little tough. I did stuff paper towels up my nose and it ran out past them.  LOL

Y'all take care and be safe.  If someone suggests you cut Ivy, think twice.  LOL

I am sorry to hear about Mary Ann.
If it is kudzu - it will kill the tree.
It wasn't poison ivy was it?
Feel better.

We have english ivy around our pines. I cut it back off the tree this year and last . Ted normally would be doing that. I just think ivy on tree lets things in that can disease a tree. Yes, it sounds like you have an allergy. So sorry about your friend Mary Ann. Take care. Blessings to you and yours, xoxo, Susie

I'm so sorry to learn about Mary Ann's setback! That's interesting about a need to cut back the vines … are y'all sure it's not kudzu? Ours seems to grow a foot every night while we're sleeping. Feel better soon!

PS - I agree with Woody about the Zyrtec -- that's a staple in our medicine cabinet.

Sounds like you are definitely having an allergy problem I imagine the pollen was hanging heavy on that ivy and you stirred it up. I usually use benedryl when mine acts up like that. I'm glad you weren't dealing with poison ivy. That's a whole different story. Hope you are feeling much better today !

My prayers for MaryAnn for healing and rest. You guys stay safe and healthy too. Zyrtec works for me too plus I use an inhaler when it's really bad. It does sound like you really stirred up the pollen, poor boy. You're doing the right thing tho, cutting back the ivy. The forester is right about the weight of wet vines taking down a tree....your property must be looking awesome. You and Bill.........always working in the woods. Our air quality has finally improved so I can go see what he's up to. lol
loven'hugs from our up north WI where it's a gorgeous 74 degrees, sun's shining bright with a chance of a shower. PERFECT grilling weather!

We have a tree taken over by Ivy. We were told 15 years ago that it would eventually kill the tree but it continues to grow. I think the tree is thriving off the Ivy.
My nose drips all the time almost constant. I have to take an allergy pill every other day.

There are grasses and shrubs blooming now and any one of them could cause allergies.
The bees love them but my nose is not a fan.
