Music to your ears?

 Memorable Automobiles from The Past:

                                Duisenberg

For today:

Now I am not much for singers and singing groups except for the groups in our courting years and our Grandchildren, several of which are VERY talented. BUT with my hearing, singing is not as much fun as it used to be.

I played the trumpet in school and was pretty good I thought. I was even first trumpet in the last school band I was in.  However even a teen ager can learn how good they really are if they pay attention to the Professionals.

So I listened to Louis Armstrong, Miles Davis and Dizzy Gillespie. Whoa, what a lip! (That is trumpet talk for GREAT) I listened to them because I played the trumpet.

BUT two instruments made my mind jump and rejoice.  The guitar (Chet Atkins’ style) but the reed instrument and the sound of that SAXAPHONE! It makes me upset at myself too because that is the instrument dad picked out for me in the third grade. I saw all those buttons (keys) and remembered a trumpet had ‘3’, I begged for the trumpet so he returned the sax that he had bought from a friend and got me an old beat up silver trumpet. I knew I could handle 3 keys. LOL ……BUT did you  ever hear Coltrane, Hawkins, Lester Young etc.

Here is Parker and Hawkins the whole thing is about 5 minutes, but it gives an idea and no one is really showing off here:

Anyway the sax yanks my chain. When I think of sax now I think of Myra's Tom, who flies high with planes and gets down with the sax. Any particular instrument especially grab you?

Ah Chet Atkins ... one of the greats. Also Lloyd Green on steel guitar.

Thank you for your comment on my blog. The narrator is me.

God bless you all.

I don't play any instruments, but I love to listen to them. They all play a special part just like all of us do to make beautiful music. You may not hear like you used to, but I'm thinking you have a very good memory of days gone by. Some music plays in our minds over and over.

I'm sure smiling at the story how you came to choose the trumpet! Oh ya, Tom's going to love this video. Don't tell him, but I'm not especially fond of sax.😉 If I had to choose one instrument to listen to the rest of my life, pretty sure it would be the piano. Can't think of the name right now, but there was a fellow who 'tickled the ivories' softly and beautifully. Then, of course, Ferrante & Teicher set the bar.

Chet Atkins sure could pick a guitar line none other. He was a favorite of my folks as well as myself. There was plenty of music in our house growing up from guitars, dulcimers, 2 of which my dad made as well as a banjo. My older, wiser sister played the accordion quite well. Of course, a lot of singing going on too. I have panpipes but never learned to play them, also a jewsharp. We all learned how to make wood whistles in the spring while the bark on the whistle wood was slipping easy. There were also a lot of competitions going on to see who could make a piece of quack grass sing the loudest. Thanks for the flashback, Jack. You did it again.

Well I had a book that I learned some guitar chords on my oldest brother’s guitar from Sears, then I eventually bought my own but sold it later on after I married. Bought another for Jarin to take a guitar class in high school, still have it and just bought new strings and a stand to hold it. Now I’ve got to toughen the tips of my fingers if I want to strum it. That’s all I can do is strum a few chords. I took piano lessons in 5th grade and my parents bought an organ with two rows of keys, but I’m still not a piano player. I also bought a banjo, (it was at Mom’s) I could strum it too but not pick. Oh yeah, I bought an electric bass before I married, I think I still have it here somewhere. So there you have it Jack of all instruments master of none. :-D Take care, Sheila

I like hearing a wooded flute played much like the Native American sounds.
I have a harmonica I would love to learn to play but if I could play any instrument, I always wanted to play the Harp.
