Rocks and stones

 Memorable Automobiles from Cartoons:

For today:

Your road is gonna be Rocky!  OR you have hit Rock bottom (from Ma’s blog).  Turn right at the giant rock or River Rock make a beautiful fire place. This biscuit is as hard as a rock or don’t throw Rocks (stones) if you live in a glass house. Plowing is tough in rocky soil and THE Rock and Roll wasn’t here to stay.

I remember my dad saying, “Don’t tell me rocks don’t grow, we cleared 30 acres for planting, and we always hauled enough rocks away to add to the rock wall around the fields! It was the same EVERY YEAR!”

When I talked to my sister and her hubby Dick about building here they were very happy. Dick said, “If it is at all possible I would like to have some North Carolina mountain rock on the outside of the house.  We went to Marion, NC and bought a load of rock to veneer some of the house.

I have used rock on fire places and chimneys in several homes.  Rock does add some character to a home. AT Hikers will ask about Pennsylvania, “Have you hiked in Rocksylvania YET?

Yep the AT has Rocks and Roots.

In our language we use the Rock to describe many things. Religion is one thing for sure, “The stone that the builder rejected has become the CORNER Stone.”

I can appreciate all the notes above, but in this day and time I want to have character as solid as a ROCK! As my daddy would say, “I want my word to be my BOND.” My mind goes back to the many legal agreements I have made with a hand shake and I recall one of the later attorneys strongly advising me to cease that, it is archaic and very dangerous. It took a while but he did help me move into the 20th century. LOL

I hope your bed is soft and roads not rocky, but hope your mental, physical and spiritual ‘conditions’ are SOLID AS A ROCK!

Finally, my girl looked great on this rock over 60 years ago!

PS: I have heard Sticks and Stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me....(That is always dependent on your state of mind, because most humans have been hurt by a nasty word hurled LIKE A STONE!)

So true about sticks and stones versus words. The bruises may fade away from a stick or stone, but bruises from words take a long time if ever to fade away! Glad I'm trying to build my life on a firm foundation of Jesus who is definitely a strong rock!

A friend used to say, "Sticks and Stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me". One day a dictionary fell on him.

Great post, Jack. God bless.

When I was young, I used to think mountains were rocks that grew.
Now I think rocks just magically appear. I can clear a soft spot to plant something and always dig up rocks that were never there the year before. People actually “Buy” rocks now to place in their yards or business. Schools have big rocks called “spirit Rocks” so the kids can paint and abuse instead of destroying other school property.

Heading to the office

Thanks for the mention of my blog today. It is appreciated. Yes sticks and stones can break bones and our hearts and break with bad words. I think you covered the subject of rocks very well and in all possibilities. Take care you don't trip on a stone. Love and hugs from Ohio where the sun is shinning today!

I love a rock veneer -- and fireplaces, too!
That's a neat saying about the cornerstone. That image of Rocksylvania is a bit unnerving ... I can practically hear both my ankles breaking.
SWEET picture of Sherry!

Field stone is what dad used to build their gorgeous fireplace. It matches on each side because dad split every rock before placing them. I think there's a little 'rock head' in a lot of us as we walk always in search of the perfect rock or stone to collect. I have them around several of my flowerbeds just because they're pretty. Dad used to say the same thing about the rock fences, but it's each spring thaw when the frost comes out of the ground that pushes yet another layer of them to the surface. To keep the chipmunks from digging in my potted plants, I place stones around the plant. It works. I LOVE the picture of Sherry. She still looks as lovely.
loven'hugs from up north where the sun is shining and the rock pickers are clearing fields for planting.
