I’m thinking…

  Today’s automobile:

SAmmy DAvis Jr's Rolls Royce, wonder if it is still around?

Some thoughts for today:

We built this house over 25 years ago.  After a few years we decided to rent/lease and just travel. I know I have told this before, but I will rehash it. We asked our sons to come over and pick anything they wanted before we emptied the house.

JJ picked an old record player, Mark said I want the rest… Great.  JJ took his Mark never did. So I bought a trailer (the kind towed as tractor and trailer truck) and stuck everything inside.  Had it towed to some empty land we owned and we left for over 20 years. Living in the RV.

We learned what I did was stupid or ignorant. The trailer was not climate controlled of course and we lost most of the stuff we should have given away.

Again the house is FULL. I want to try to down size instead of dropping it into our son’s laps to figure what to do with the STUFF!  That really isn’t fair.

So the first thing I want to do is make some shelves in the garage. I want to put things there that are worth something but we do not want nor need. Example: Once in Haiti we bought two giant wooden vases, And two chairs

A Giant set of a fork and spoon.  Salad bowl and serving bowls.

A foot locker…

all hand carved.

I have some great gold trimmed Mugs from London

and many other nice souvenirs we no longer use nor need.

I think it will be a start.  Looking to put some old furniture with a local antique dealer on consignment. I know we must start somewhere.......

Souvenirs, yes!
Like my parents before me, Tom and I've collected 'stuff' we thought important at the time. Thankfully, when we downsized a few years ago much went the way of Goodwill. I mean, we enjoyed them at the time but tastes change as do the seasons in our lives; there's nothing wrong with saying, "Good-bye."
You know, I've seen/heard that vintage trunks are in vogue; perhaps you can put that footlocker out on FB Marketplace?
Good luck!

How much would you sell the bobbin and shuttle from the cotton mill?

Slow but sure we're doing the same. I just put a rocker at the thrift shop today along with many books. I've given away many things but somehow "stuff" still accumulates! But I always say, the way to eat an elephant is one bite at a time...hopefully our elephant will be gone and just a few things left behind in the not too distant future. Good luck with yours!

Wise to think of downsizing. I like your plan, Jack, with storing some on the shelving in the garage. Wise too to see if you can get any money from the things you don't want but might be of value. It is amazing how things do accumulate, even if one is trying not to collect things one manages to do so!

Some of these things could be antiques. Like the mugs from London. Check the name of the makers underneath - Wedgwood, Worcester, Chelsea ...

God bless.

I downsized years ago when I had to move to where I am now. It' doesn't have much storage apace and I'm still bulging at the seams. I have more to get rid of before I go. My kids don't want any of my stuff so I suppose I'll be giving away more before I go. I hope you can get rid of yours making some money on it, but for me I'll just give mine away. Good will and Salvation Army do a good job of distributing it.
